Calling young urban artists!

Ready, urbanites? It's time to rediscover the cities you live in every day. This UNESCO project offers you the chance to create digital art inspired by the scenes and sounds of your hometown.

Visit the project's Art Gallery to see what students have created so far.

This Young Digital Creators initiative will be launched globally in 2004. For the present, only the schools shown on the list of Participating Schools can upload their art to the site. However all schools and young people are welcome to use the resources and creative software available here.

This project asks students to become artists and teachers to become mentors. If you are a teacher hoping to learn more about how to be a part of this program, please click on the button labelled MENTORS.

If you are a young person living in a city, click on the button labelled ARTISTS for tips on how to begin the creative process.

Participating Mentors and Artists need to login in order to upload their art to the site.

Why UNESCO has created Scenes and Sounds of My City

Despite living in an increasingly globalised society, with news and pictures from the television and the internet linking us to the rest of the world, many of us still have very little idea about the everyday lives of people in other countries. This website provides an opportunity to discover what it would be like to live in another city.

This project presents the high rises of Hong Kong, the castle of Kilkenny, the chess tables of Cambridge, Massachusetts, the cybercafes of Paris, the beaches of Melbourne and the Pacific island city of Suva – all through the eyes of young people.

To get started on making your contribution, first check that your school is on the list on the right of this screen. Then, start the Creative Process on the left of this screen.
